Research Environment

Health, Illness, and Culture

We develop new knowledge with and through practice for the benefit of optimal healthcare professional efforts.

In the research environment 'Health, Illness, and Culture,' we focus on exploring aspects of care, treatment, and support for individuals with chronic conditions and others requiring assistance due to illness or age. We emphasise the changes within the healthcare system brought about by a shift in task distribution between specialised and community healthcare services. The purpose of the research is to contribute practice-oriented knowledge and solutions that can enhance nursing education and nursing practice in general. Development work is carried out in collaboration with partners from municipalities, regions, companies, and associations.

Focus Areas

Our environment is marked by robust and productive collaboration among researchers, practitioners, stakeholders, and the broader field of nursing studies. As a research and development unit within a university college, we promote a comprehensive knowledge cycle, creating a platform where diverse actors contribute to learning and the advancement of knowledge. Our primary aim is to conduct research that supports both education and practical applications in nursing.

Our team engages in an array of research areas. While the following list is not exhaustive, it illustrates the dynamic nature of our evolving research interests:

  • Palliative care, end-of-life issues, spirituality and religion, and the role of relatives
  • Ethics, including concepts such as mastering, moral distress, transitions, and the process of becoming
  • Generational perspectives, ageing, and care
  • Recruitment and retention of nursing professionals
  • Sociology of health, nursing, and nurses' work life

We employ a broad range of research methodologies, including randomised controlled trials (RCTs), complex interventions, action research, text analysis, mixed methods, quantitative, and qualitative research approaches.

Our Research Projects

Our research projects cover a wide range of topics related to food and health innovation.

Collaboration

We collaborates extensively with other research institutions, governmental and non-governmental bodies, municipalities, foundations, and various stakeholders within the field of health and nursing.
