When do you need an Individual Competence Assessment (ICA)?
You need an ICA, if you do not fulfil the formal admission requirements for admission to a professional bachelor’s degree programme.
Through an ICA, you will get an evaluation of your combined knowledge, skills and competences.
We will evaluate whether:
- Your competencies corresponds to the formal admission requirements
- With these competencies you are considered capable to complete the programme
If you get a positive evaluation, it means that you have received dispensation and qualifies to apply on equal terms with the remaining quota 2 applicants. (Applicants to the International Honours Degree in Teaching must also attend an admission interview). A positive evaluation does not guarantee admission to the programme.

What you need to do to receive an Individual Competence Assessment (ICA)
If you wish an individual assessment of your concrete competencies, you must do the following:
1. Document the fulfilment of several of the below evaluation criteria. This has to be documented in a CV with attached appendices.
- The potential fulfilment of specific subject requirements, for example, A-level Mathematics, or qualifications/experience which corresponds thereof
- Short higher education programme, preferable subject relevant, but this is not a requirement
- HF subjects on A or B-level, preferable subject relevant, but this is not a requirement
- FIF subjects (only for teacher and social work programmes)
- Relevant vocational upper secondary education
- Relevant work experience
- Documentable English language skills, sufficient to study at bachelor level
- Subject relevant course minimum 3 months/10 ECTS
- Documentable study competencies, especially relevant, if you cannot document HF subjects or the completion of entire or parts of higher education programmes
2. Make a competence description, where you describe how your competencies and experiences makes it possible for you to complete the programme. It is important that you demonstrate knowledge of the programme and that you focus on the programme’s subject areas. Length is approximately 1 to 1,5 pages. The competence description must include the following:
- The competence description must focus around the programme
- You need to describe your documented experiences and qualifications and explain why they are relevant in relation to the programme’s subject areas
- With focus on the programme’s subject areas, you need to explain why you wish to be accepted into the programme
- You need to argument for why your experiences and qualifications has prepared you to complete the programme – here you need to put special emphasis on your prerequisites to be able to study a programme on bachelor degree level
- You need to prove knowledge of the programme, its content, subject areas and how you wish to make use of the education afterwards

Online Mathematics Placement Test
If you do not have a qualifying examination with the required Mathematic level, you can supplement your exam with a Mathematics test. A passed test can be included in our assessment of your overall mathematics qualifications when you apply for admission through individual competence assessment.
We will take the following test into account:
- OMPT-B
- OMPT-D
Application
Application for admission through ICA is not a separate application. You apply for admission through www.optagelse.dk, which opens on the 1st of February. Under the tab “Entry qualifications” you choose the tab “No entry qualifying exam”. Under the tab “Attachments” you attach your CV, your competence description and your documentation.
When you apply for admission through ICA, it is especially important that you in your application describe past experiences and qualifications, and that you attach documentation for these in your application. Only the documented experiences and qualifications are included in the evaluation.
Deadline
Deadline to apply for admission through ICA is the 15 March at 12.00 noon.
When will I receive an answer?
You will receive answer on your ICA by the end of June. If you get a positive ICA, you will be included in the distribution of study places in quota 2 on equal terms with the remaining quota 2 applicants (Applicants to the International Honours Degree in Teaching must also attend an admission interview). You will receive answer on your application for admission by the end of July, when the Coordinated Admission has distributed the study places. If your ICA is rejected, you will receive guidelines on what to do in order to better improve your changes to be evaluated eligible for admission to the programme.
