Study activity
The Bachelor Programme is a full time program corresponding to 41 hours of study activities per week, and including a variety of activities.
The activities vary according to the program and topic, and they include much more than classroom teaching.
A graphic model illustrates the variety of activities. The model is widely used at all University Colleges in Denmark. It shows the distribution and weight of the activities throughout the program. For each of the categories, teachers and students have different roles and responsibility.
The Study Activity Model fulfills three purposes:
- The model makes visible that the various study activities constitutes a full time program. The model illustrates and provides the student with an overview of the activities and a means of planning his/her time.
- The model makes visible that a Bachelor Program at a University College includes different types of study activities.
- The model serves a basis for a discussion between teacher and student about expectations in relation to responsibilities and roles connected to the study activities
Four categories of study activities
The Study Activity Model illustrates who is responsible for taking the initiative, and who is participating in the various teaching, study and learning activities.
Category 1 refers to study activities defined by the teacher. Both teacher and student participate. Activities include lectures, classroom teaching, supervision, teaching taking place at an internship etc.
Category 2 refers to study activities initiated by the teachers and completed by the students. Activities include group work, project work, study visits etc.
Category 3 refers to study activities initiated and completed by the students. Activities include preparation, elaboration of various products, group work, observations, case studies, peer-to-peer feedback etc.
Category 4 refers to study activities initiated by the students. Both student and teachers participate. Activities include feedback, supervision, thematic work, presentation of products etc.
